Mother of the Bride Makeup Tips

No doubt your daughter (or daughterinlaw) has told you numerous times how it her day, but we know that this wedding will be just as important to you too. a religious skincare routine is very important, says Kate Pritchard, Face Designer for Giorgio Armani Cosmetics. will maintain the skin so no nasty surprises arise before the big day. Start by exfoliating once a week. will eliminate dead skin cells and minimise pores, resulting in smooth, radiant skin which allows makeup to glide on, says Pritchard. You should also be cleansing daily. The next (and possibly the most important) step is hydration, which is essential when it comes to radiance. primer will smooth out the skin creating an easy palette for the foundation to glide on to, says Pritchard, while also reducing the textured appearance that mature skin has. Dab concealer onto any blemishes or marks.

When choosing your foundation, avoid thick formulas that look cakey and sink into your fine lines. skin becomes drier with age and your makeup must allow for this. Ireland agrees. liquid foundation in a lightreflecting formula will give the most natural youthful look. tip: is very important to use the correct brushes when applying makeup. The right brush will blend the makeup into the skin rather than leaving it sitting on top of fine lines. Kate Pritchard, Giorgio Armani Cosmetics

If you prone to shine, blend a loose powder over your foundation. Well groomed eye brows help frame the face and can even lift the appearance of droopy eyes. Choose a lipstick in brighter or lighter shades to add fullness. Avoid dark tones which can be too harsh against your skin tone. will minimise any creasing, says Ireland. Next a concealer should be applied on the eye lid and under the eye in a shade lighter to brighten and open up the eye area for a rested and youthful look.

When choosing your eye shadow, colour and formula are important. colours of eye shadow are too complicated for older lids. Instead use two neutral shades and blend them so they look natural, says Robson. We recommend using a matte eye shadow through the crease of the eyes as shimmery formulas draw attention to any fine lines and puffiness. Save the shimmery shades for the inner part of your lid to awaken the eyes. Perdis has another trick; open up your eyes by curling your lashes with an eyelash curler before applying mascara. Then with a waterproof mascara, focus on applying mascara to your top eye lashes for an upward lifting effect.

Expert tip: dab of concealer at the inner eye corners, blended well, will really make you look bright, fresh and awake. Pamela Robson, Grownup Gorgeous in Your 50sChoosing the right colours is vital for mature skin. The best colours, according to Pritchard, are neutral earthy tones. hues are the most suitable rather than dark harsh colours. You should also avoid using shimmery or very bright colours as they magnify your imperfections. choosing colours for your eyes, cheeks and lips, pick different tones from the same colour family, and avoid mixing cool and warm colours in the one makeup look, says Perdis.

Bobbi Brown, founder of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, recommends a bit of colour on your cheeks with a cream blush topped with just a touch of powder blush to help it last; it will soften your overall appearance. Napoleon Perdis also recommends considering your clothes when picking colours. colours that complement your outfit, says Perdis, remember that you don have to match your makeup exactly with what you wearing. tip: dusting of pastel pink blush on the apples of your cheeks is also a clever way to distract attention from the dark circles. Biggest mistakes mature women make

blending in their makeup properly. Using brushes will not only give a flawless finish but it will save you time and half your product. Kate Pritchard, Giorgio Armani Cosmetics

too much bronzer; a sunkissed look can be healthy but a dark tan can be terribly ageing. Jahi Ireland, Est Lauder

common mistake is the use of harsh colours. A bright pink lipstick and blush won necessarily the face. It depends on the individual skin tone. Kate Pritchard, Giorgio Armani Cosmetics

is a misconception that mature women should stick to matte products in fear that shimmer will accentuate lines. Try dewy hydrating products for an instant lift. Kate Pritchard, Giorgio Armani Cosmetics

Makeup For Acne Scars

Acne Scar TypesAcne scars come in many different forms. First, there's simple hyperpigmentation that's left behind as a part of your body's inflammatory response. This usually fades over time. Rolling scars leave subtle indentations on the skin, while boxcar scars have sharp, defined edges and can be very depressed. Finally, icepick scars are very narrow and look like a big pore, but can be very deep. You obviously can't cover up depressions and indentations in the skin with makeup, but you can make them less noticeable.

FoundationFoundation is a key component to any acne scar concealing arsenal. It's important to find a shade that matches your skin tone precisely. Your best bet is to go to a department store and have a makeup artist there match a shade to your skin tone. This will help the foundation blend more evenly into your neck and look more natural. Look for a brand that offers full coverage to hide red marks and makes depressions less noticeable. Be careful to choose a product that's oilfree and won't clog pores to prevent additional acne breakouts.

ToolsWhen using makeup to cover acne scars, it's important to have the right tools on hand. Foam makeup sponges are a must for applying foundation evenly and blending it well. Plus, they're disposable, so you won't introduce bacteria onto your face with repeated use. You should also have a concealer brush, which is available from any department store or makeup company for applying foundation or concealer to specific spots on the face. A large powder brush is also necessary for applying and blending in loose powder and avoiding a cakedon appearance. It should not be used as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. LIVESTRONG is a registered trademark of the LIVESTRONG Foundation. A Busy Girl's Guide To Makeup

And while she's constantly crushing it at her job, she also goes to Soul Cycle every morning. Oh, and she's got two kids. How could we forget that? So our biggest question ishow does she manage to leave the house looking presentable, let alone impeccable?

WATCH: Day to Night Makeup in Under a Minute

Perhaps, dear friends, she has tapped into the 5Minute Face. Let's be honest, whether you're like your power coworker or not, most of us are not blessed with the luxury of time. Or maybe for you Sephora is more like a maze of mystery than a palatial playground? Fret not.

We tapped into four beauty experts to get their take on the 5Minute Face:

Emmy Award Winning Beauty Expert Kevin James Bennett says that first and foremost, that skincare is your 1 concern.

"Dealing with skin 'challenges' eats up the precious time you should be spending getting gorgeous. A quick exfoliation will clear away dull, dead skin cells that are preventing your makeup from sitting pretty and looking its best. I love 'enzyme' exfoliants because they're extremely effective and gentle enough to use frequently. One of my faves is Dermalogica's Daily Microfoliant, which uses fruit (papain) and rice enzymes."

And for putting on that foundation, he recommends a tinted moisturizer (a BB/CC Cream) but says to avoid the storebought stuff and just make your own!

"I love the versatility of a medium to fullcoverage liquid makeup that can be multipurpose and Make Up For Ever's HD Foundation is perfect for this. Put a small amount of foundation on the heel of your palm and then mix in a few drops of treatment oil designed for all skin types, like Nude Skincare's ProGenius. Apply to your skin while it's still slightly damp (after you've exfoliated and patted dry). It will seal in the moisture, even out your skin tone, cover minor imperfections, and leave a gorgeous glow. Apply a little of the full strength foundation where you need extra coverage."

The Experts Guide to Makeup Trials

I put myself in the hands of a top Bobbi Brown makeup artist to see what I could learn about bridal makeup trials. The following tips will save you time, stress and guarantee you are looking nothing short of beautiful on your wedding day.

Book Your MakeupTrials Well In Advance

Don make the mistake of leaving your bridal makeup trials to the last minute, after all you want your face be as perfect as your gown. A smart plan? Start your trials as much as 12 months, and at least 3 months, before your wedding day. Then be prepared to meet again in the weeks leading up to the wedding to do a runthrough.

Why start so far in advance? There are many advantages: the weather conditions should be roughly the same which will help in the selection of a style and suitable products, you have plenty of time to experiment until you find look that suits both you and will work in front of the camera. Plus your skin is likely to be in a similar condition so your makeup artist can also help you to review what needs to be focused on with your long term skincare regime.

It also gives you scope to do as many trials as you need to feel 100% happy with both the makeup artist and their ability to help you achieve your dream look. Many cosmetics houses makeover fee is redeemable against a purchase (Bobbi Brown currently offer this), so it a fun idea to book in a makeup test run when you are in need of new skincare or cosmetics. Appointments

Some brides get up at the crack of dawn on their wedding day due to overwhelming excitement or nerves, but the majority simply get up with the birds so they can spend several hours getting glammed up in the beauty chair. By scheduling your makeup trials in the morning too you be able to review how your makeup copes with the stresses of the day and night ahead. Be sure to take note of what needs to be done throughout to keep it looking fresh.

Another trick? Try to book in on a day you have a special event to go to your engagement party or another friends wedding for example.

So don be too quick to wipe it off if you don like it, at least ask why they have chosen to be more heavy/light/bright/muted etc than you would have done yourself. That said if you feel they have gotten it completely wrong don be scared to speak up and have the makeup worked on until you are happy and feel comfortable to keep on going with the day.

Speak Up!

You can never have too much information or ask too many questions (though you may have to stop talking at some point tricky to apply gloss to a mouth that is moving at a hundred miles per hour).

As well as images take along some written notes on key points include date of wedding, location of ceremony and reception; how much time to be spent outdoors; expected temperature/conditions; colour of the bouquets/boutonnieres/ties and bridesmaid gowns; your favourite colours of shadow and gloss and if you plan on getting a spray tan. Homework always gets rewarded!

Photograph The Results

By taking some self portraits once you jump out of the chair and throughout the day/night you then be able to review how the makeup worked for the camera, be it an amateurs, and also workout what you will need for touchups!

Above all have fun with your trials, you will walk away with new tricks and products that will probably change your outlook on beauty for life!

Images: I took the below two very basic photographs of myself from an arms length which helped me understand how the makeup would work indoors, in softer daylight as well as in the evening. It really is quite amazing at how well the Bobbi Brown products that were selected for me lasted through to the night and required so little to refresh (the PM shot was taken 9 hours after my makeup session and I had simply touched up my blush and gloss). See the face chart which explains in detail the steps taken and products used by the Bobbi Brown team.

Tips on make up

Tips on makeup for a "baby face"?

I about to start my junior year of High School and I don typically wear makeup. On rare occasions I may were eyeliner on the inside of my upper eyelid and mascara, or BB Cream if I happen to have a rare break out. Although I sixteen, people often mistake me for being fourteen or twelve. I am petite for my age, only 4 and ninety six pounds, so it doesn help my case. I also starting to wear my hair down more in hopes that it help as well. I know, I appreciate my baby face in the oncoming years but for now, I just want to feel beautiful. I don think that I ugly, I would just like to bring out my features and smile without comparing myself to the girl sitting beside me in class. I going to go school shopping soon and would really appreciate any tips that anyone has to give. Thank you.(:

3 weeks agoI love the way my makeup looks, but the real trick is practice. Buy a lash curler! Put on plenty of mascara and then curl them! Big eye lashes make a big difference. I buy liquid liner and put on a very thin line above the top lid. That part takes the most practice. You should probably start out with light eye shadow colors, whatever you think will look good with your irises and hair color. I use like a light lavender on my lid then apply some dark purple on the outer corner of my eye. Then I uses some pencil liner on the outer corner of the inside of my bottom lid. Then some foundation. And trust me you cannot feel uncomfortable with it (too much) and expect to go out and feel confident. You have to get comfortable with a little, then a little more, then a little more until you love the look, like me:)16 year old country gal

I 16 and starting my junior year as well! In fact, I got a baby/round face so if I not wearing makeup, I could pass as a 13 year old. However I been wearing makeup for awhile now and I learned how to look older :) Eyeliner is a big thing. Don wear too much. Otherwise, you will look like a tryhard which may make you look younger. Using liquid liner on the top lid is an easy way to use eyeliner and it won smudge. With eyeshadows, I like to mix neutral colors with kind of a "smokey" eye effect but not as intense. I don use this for an everyday look though. Mascara will help open up your eyes and you definitely look more mature. I like using L mascaras but also Revlon Lash Potion but a good starter one would be the volumizing one by Covergirl. With blush, stay away from putting blush on the apples of your cheeks because while it may give you a rosy glow, it will also look quite young as young children usually have this flush on their cheeks. Try using bronzer and contouring instead! It should go beneath your cheekbones in the hollows of your face. It will give your face a less round shape. Filling in your brows will also make you look older. Lastly, rather than using lip gloss, use a matte lipstick. If you don want any lipstick, then I say just a hydrating lip balm.

My VERY last thing is, remember that you beautiful and makeup is meant to enhance the natural beauty already there :) don feel like you need to compare yourself to those girls with full faces of makeup or who look more mature! Embrace what you have :)

Good news for you! There are so many ways to avoid the "baby face" look.

1. Unless you have high cheekbones, your cheeks are one of the main contributors to the "baby face". If you apply a light blush to your cheekbones properly, it will bring the direction up rather than giving the impression of round "baby cheeks".

2. Try a little natural colored eye shadow. This will make your eyes pop when you put the eyeliner on over it. If you like, put some mascara on your bottom lashes, this will open up your eyes more.
